Posted on Fri, 6 Feb 2015
Question: I am a 65 year old woman. I was awaken this morning with chest discomfort. At first I thought it was
acid reflux or something like that. It lasted a while but I was able to go back to sleep. This feeling of discomfort has remained in my chest area all day. I have some discomfort in my back area, which could be lungs or musoskeletal problem.

Brief Answer:
get done ECG first.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM.
In my opinion, you should first get done ECG to rule out cardiac cause.
If this is normal, then no need to worry much for cardiac cause.
I think it is musculoskeletal pain due to bad posture in sleep.
So try to follow these steps.
1. Avoid heavy weight lifting.
2. Avoid strenuous exercise.
3. Avoid movements causing pain.
4. Take good pain killer and muscle relaxant.
5. Apply warm water pad on affected back areas.

If not improving in 5 days, then get done chest x ray to rule lung cause.

Hope i have solved your question.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
