Dear Friend.
You might have developed slight corneal abrasion.
I advise you to simply use antibiotic eye drop like Gatifloxacin for 5 days.
Always discuss with your local doctor before acting on any opinion given online.
Gud luck.

Brief Answer:
It shows inflammation of the corner of the lids.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care magic.

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an Ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

I reviewed your history and the report attached with the question.
It shows localized redness at the outer corner of the eye, otherwise it appears normal.
This can be because of inflammation of the corner of the eye lid margin. It requires treatment by the use of antibiotic eye drops and anti-inflammatory drugs.

I usually prefer to treat conditions like this by use of antibiotic eye drops like ciprofloxacin. Use of anlagesic and anti-inflammatory provides symptomatic relief from pain.

Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you. Please do write to me for any further questions, I will be happy to help.

Thank you

So its inflammation of the corner of the eye lid margin? So if thats the case why does it feel dry around that area ?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dadapeer K (25 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Dryness is secondary to irritation of skin.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

The dryness can be because of irritation and the inflammation of the skin in the corner of the eyelids or because of abrasion in the eyelid margin.
This will resolve as the inflammation of the eyelid margin decreases or as the abrasion heals.

Hence continue treatment with antibiotics eye drops and antiinflammatory drugs. You can use artificial tears eye drops for quick symptomatic relief.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Another problem i have right now is chronic dry eye on my right eye and my primary eye doctor gave me Restasis but i want to know how restasis works and does it really work?

How long does it take before i see results from Restasis?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dadapeer K (4 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Restasis acts by increasing tear production.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care magic.

Thank you for the follow up question.

Restasis contains cyclosporine and it is used because of anti-inflammatory condition. The traditional treatment of dry eyes was by use of artificial tears. However the recent research has told that the basic mechanism of decreased tear production in dry eyes is because of chronic inflammation seen in dry eyes. Hence cyclosporine is used for its anti-inflammatory action and it decreases this inflammation and increases tear production.

Restasis is a drug with slow onset of action and it takes 1-3 months before the symptoms appear to be decreased with the use of the drug. This may need to be taken for 3-12 months depending on the severity of the condition.

Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you. DO write to me for any further questions.

Sounds good because thats what i have to take. I also had LASIK surgery done this past Dec of 2013. My primary care doctor told me that when you have LASIK surgery they cut the flap on the cornea and when they do that they cut corneal nerves. Is that true?

If it is true how long does it take for corneal nerves to renegerate and come back? Do they ever come back?

Is there any medication i can take for corneal nerve renegeration? Does cyclosporine in Restasis help regenerate corneal nerves?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dadapeer K (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
It is true that Lasik will damage corneal nerves.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care magic.

Thank you for the follow up question.

Lasik surgery can lead to dry eyes. This is because of damage to the corneal nerves during cutting the corneal flap. This decreased sensation because of damage to the corneal nerves will result in decreased tear production and dryness of the eye. Hence artificial tears are prescribed in the post operative period following lasik surgery.

The damaged corneal nerves may take 6-12 months for regeneration.

Cyclosporine will not help for nerve regeneration but it helps to prevent dry eye by increasing secretion of tears.

Antioxidants and multivitamin tablets will help in faster regeneration of the corneal nerves.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Ok for me its already been 8 months going to 9 months since I had LASIK surgery and my eyes are still dry. That's what i don't understand because you just mentioned it takes about 6-12 months for the corneal nerves to regenerate meanwhile i feel like theres no improvement to my dry eyes at all ever since i did the LASIK surgery. And before i even had the LASIK surgery i already had dry eyes to begin with because i used to wear perscription contact lenses for years. So i don't know what to do. What do you suggest.

And another thing when you say antioxidants and multivitamin tablets are you talking about a very specific tablet that I have to take. If so can you give me any great suggestions of what antioxidants I need and also multivitamin as well.

Another question is now that you know that i used to wear contact lenses before having LASIK Surgery and had dry eyes even before the procedure you think Restasis can really work for me and treat my condition that I'm having because i really hate dealing with dry eyes already because its very fustrating. Whats the best approach i can take? What do you suggest.

Brief Answer:
Restasis is good option for chronic dry eyes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank you for the follow up question.

Since you were having dry eyes even before LASIK, probably LASIK would have increased the dryness. If the condition does not show improvement then you may need to try other modes of treatments like punctal plugs to retain the tears.

Antioxidants like omega fatty acids as in tablets like I dew capsules are known to be helpful in recovery from dry eyes caused by LASIK. Along with this foods rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin C.... are known to be of help.

Studies on Restasis have shown that it is more efficient than artificial tears in treating chronic dry eyes. Hence you need to continue Restasis as advised by your doctor.

Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you.

Do you see the picture that i just attached called Thera Tears Nutrition Omega 3 for the eyes? Thats what I'm currently taking right now. Is that a good antioxidant? Is it considered a antioxidant?

What are I dew capsules because i have never heard of that before. What exactly do they do? And where can i purchase these " I dew capsules" ? Do i need a perscription for this?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dadapeer K (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
Thera tears is a antioxidant.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

Thera tears capsules are similar to I dew capsules and contain omega fatty acids. These act by thinning the meibomian tear secretions and reducing the inflammation, thus increasing the tear secretion. It is also a good antioxidant and
you can continue use of Thera tears capsules. I dew capsules also contain the same ingredients and no need to purchase them.

Hope the information is helpful to you.
