What Causes Discomfort In The Rectum After A TRUP Procedure?

Question: Two weeks after TURP. Urinary symptoms ok (good stream, no blood, no pain), but a very uncomfortable feeling in rectum and/or anus like permanently wanting to pass stool. Actually passing stool (normal, not diarrhea) 2 or 3 times a day. Feeling somewhat better after passing stool, but problem returning after a while. Difficulty in sitting. Is all of this normal? Thanks very much.

Hi there.
Thanks for writing in.
It might get better after a while. As of now, I would advise you to drink plenty of fluids a day. Have fresh fruits and vegetables, fibre rich food in your diet. If this doesn't help, get an over the counter stool softener, to keep stools soft and thereby help in easy emptying of the bowels.
If it still persists after a week or two, visit your doctor.
Hope this information was helpful.

Hello an thanks for your reply.
I'm drinking plenty of fluids and, as I said before, the urinary part is getting better (for the moment good stream, no blood, no pain). My problem is at abdominal, rectal and anal level, which worries me because I was told this has nothing to do with the TURP operation, although it began right after it, when I still had the probe in my penis.
I don't think I need a stool softener, my stool is soft, emptying of the bowels is easy and frequent (2 or 3 times a day, which I actually find too much) but I feel a huge discomfort, as if I permanently need to empty the bowels. Besides, I have difficulty in sitting, walk very slowly and don't feel ok generally speaking.
Thanks in advance for any specific help.
Regards

Hi....
You could try using warm water Sitz Bath, that is, sit in a tub filled with lukewarm water for 10 minutes. This might help.
Some people ,after TURP, do get this kind of rectal fullness and pain while sitting . This will get better with time.
However, do let your urologist know that you are experiencing such symptoms...who might order further investigations or refer you to a gastroenterologist for an anoscopy if necessary.
Other possibilities are mass in the rectum, haemorrhoids or piles etc
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
