Question: I found black areas of apparently dead cells on the surface of my tongue. There has been some discomfort and sensation of tongue coating for the last three nights. Is this suggestive of any known disease?

hi

thanks for writing in.

As per your symptoms you might be having black hairy tongue which can be due to many reasons like:
- poor oral hygiene

You need to maintain good oral hygiene and if you smoke then quit smoking.
Take more roughage like salad in your diet.
Consult an oral surgeon and start with antifungal like nystatin.
