What Causes Discomfort In Throat After Swallowing A Chicken Bone?

Question: I ate about six hours ago and swallowed a small chicken bone. Feels like it is still stick in my throat. I have tried to eat bead, drank liquid, ate more chicken and was able to swallow with no issues. But I still feel a raw sensation in my throat. I can breathe and swallow but it is uncomfortable.

There are 2 possibilities of what might have happened.

1. The bone is still stuck there and hence causing you these problems.
2. The bone has passed down but while passing down it might have caused some injury to food pipe which is causing your problems .

The best way to differentiate between these two is to get an X ray of your neck and check , if bone is stuck then it will show on X ray and if it is passed down then X ray will be normal .

If the bone has passed down then no need to worry , the injury will heal in 1-2 days , but if the bone is stuck then it needs to be removed . In that case you need to consult either ENT doctor or a gastroenterologist.
