What Causes Distended Veins In The Neck?
Question: Sometimes my vein on the left side of my neck will bubble up pretty big for a few minutes and then go away. Is tha something t be concerned about?
Brief Answer:
2d echo to be done!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Firstly thanks for choosing health care magic for your query!
The vein in neck is called jugular vein.
Common causes for distended jugular veins include pulmonary embolism, constrictive pericarditis and a failing right side of the heart, according to Right Diagnosis. Distended neck veins can also be caused by pericardial effusion, restrictive cardiomyopathy or ventricular tachycardia.
But in your case its transient,I would advice you to go for a baseline cardiology test called 2d echo to rule out above mentioned problems.
If 2d echo is normal ,you need not to worry then!
Thank you,
Feel free to question!

Thank you very much! I appreciate the fast response. Also, I sometimes get weird sounds in my ears. I thought it was anxiety because it seemed to be triggered by loud noises and chaos, but I have started anxiety medication a couple months ago, and it is still doing it. It's almost like the sounds get amplified and sometimes like static or high pitched buzzing. I usually have to cover my ears or stick my finger in my ear and wiggle it around to try to get it to stop. Any suggestions of what to do about that?

When it comes to my neck...if the vein isn't bubbling up at the time of the echo will they still be able to tell what is wrong?
Brief Answer:
Echo will rule out any pathological abnormality!
Detailed Answer:
If there is any pathological or physiological abnormality echo will rule it out!
But bubbling of the vein ,i dont think there is any specific test for which can rule out the specific cause of bubbling.
Thank you!
