What Causes Disturbed Sleep, Confusion And Weakness After Triple Bypass Surgery?

Question: Hi, my father had a triple bypass surgery on Tuesday, he is having a lot of trouble in recovery. He is very sleepy, cannot open his right eye properly, he is very confused and weak. He also suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure. I live interstate and am not sure if this is normal or if I should fly over (I have 4 kids at home).

Your father need immediate clinical evaluation.
These type of symptoms may be due to -
- Electrolyte abnormalities which may be related to medicines or kidney problem.
- abnormally high or low blood sugar levels.
- Abnormal high or low blood pressure.
- Related to brain.

All this need to be ruled out by detailed clinical examination and following investigations -
- Complete blood count.
- Random blood sugar level.
- Renal function test.
- Arterial blood gas.
- Liver function test.
- Urine examination.

So better to consult ER of hospital where your father has underwent surgery.
