What Causes Dizziness After Swimming?

default
Posted on Tue, 27 May 2014
Question: I went swimming yesterday and afterwards I was really dizzy for the rest of the night until I went to sleep. I had water in my ears but was able to get it out when tilting my head and bouncing up and down type of thing. I have had an off balance sensation since drinking alot of alcohol march 1st and its almost everyday, sometimes I dont notice it. I cant figure out what it is. My ENT and regular doctor, and other people tell me its my anxiety. But for example, why did the dizziness worsen after the pool, and after elevator ride the other day?

"The dizzy feeling, feels like im on an elevator, not quite dizzy, just not quite RIGHT" -- hard to explain!!!!!!

Thanks but I think im dying of brain cancer or a brain tumor and I wont be around in a few days. I hope if I was, I would have gotten worse over the past 2 months and not stayed the same.

Thanks for the time.

Hi,

Thanks for the query.

Please relax as your symptoms do not point to a diagnosis of brain cancer and your symptoms somewhat point to positional vertigo.

The causes of vertigo can be many but positional vertigo is usually due to dislodgement of micro particles in the inner ear.

Particle repositioning manoeuvres are usually helpful if labrynthine sedatives do not help.

Worsening of symptoms with entry of water is usually due to temperature changrs because of water.

Please get a complete ENT & neurological examination done.

Avoit jerky movements of head and quick bending. Use labrynthine sedatives for few days and when symptoms subside, do adaptation exercises for vertigo and you should be fine.

Feel free to ask another query.

Thank you for that. What is an example of a labrynthis sedative? Also I had an ENT examination and audiogram a month ago and a neurological exam two weeks ago(follow finger, strength in arms and legs, looked in eye with light to check nerve, and a few other tests). All was perfect they both said and they say it can be from anxiety. But it did get worse after swimming and using an elevator te other day. It really doesn't sound like a brain tumor it has been almost 2 and a Hal months with this. Scared very scared. And since I ha panic disorder and hypochondria and generalized anxiety I doubt a clear MRI would even totally help me.

Brief Answer:
Cinnarizine

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the query.

Cinnarizine is a commonly used labrynthine sedative and your ENT will prescribe you this if he/she thinks it as indicated.

Rest all the symptoms can be explained with panic/anxiety problems. Also positional vertigo can also explain most of these.

If an MRI can give you satisfaction, yiu can fo ahead with it in consultation with your doctor but most probably it will ne normal.

Thank you. Last thing. No indication of a brain tumor? Even it has lasted over two months.
