Cause of dizziness and management
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, thanks for asking from HCM.
I can understand your concern. If your dizziness, imbalance is more during darkness or night, it is more likely to be due to
: Vestibular system of ear - This system is required for balance, steadiness and gait. It works along with cerebellum of brain and posterior sensory cord (spinal cord). Damage to this system can occur due to ear infection. As you are a known case of sinus infection and sinuses, nose are connected to middle ear via "Eustachian tube".
Blockade of this tube due to nasal and sinus infection can cause middle ear infection and later on vestibular system damage.
For confirmation, you need to consult ENT specialist. He will examine your vestibular function by
: Hallpike manœuvre
: Dynamic visual acuity
: Spinalveutibualr reflex
Investigation
: Electronystagmography
: NCCT head with mastoid cuts
Further treatment can be given spending upon severity and involvement of vestibular system.
If imbalance is persistent and same during day and night, it is most probably due to Cerebellar system.
It can be affected due to
: Alcohol intake
: Cerebella mass
: Spinocerebllar atrophy
You should consult neurologist for evaluation of its function
: Finger-nose test
: Heel-shin tets
: Nystagmus
the doctor may repeat MRI brain to know
: Mass lesion
: Cerebellar atrophy
: Cerebellar infarct
Kindly correlate your symptoms and consult accordingly. If you have any doubt, do let me know. Final treatment will be decided after confirmation of diagnosis.
Hope it will help you. Thanks. Take care.
