What Causes Dizziness And Headaches In A Teenager?

Question: I have a teenage daughter who gets bouts of dizziness. She does get occassional headaches and fainted once..should her dizziness be a cause of concern?

There are many causes of giddiness . From simple causes to some serious causes .

Simple causes includes Low BP or High BP , Low/High Blood sugars , Low/High Blood Sodium levels , Anemia , Thyroid diseases , Inner ear diseases .

Serious causes are Heart problems like Heart failure , arrythmias, Aortic stenosis, Brain problems like stroke , mass in brain , Reduced blood supply to brain .

So we need to evaluate the cause of dizziness . I advise you to get these tests done and revert back .

Serum TSH, Hb%, Fasting Blood sugars , Serum Sodium levels.
Get Her Blood pressure checked in sitting and standing position ,
Get ECG, 2D ECHO , Carotid and vertebral doppler .
Also get her examined by ENT doctor and ask him to do Dix Hallpike Maneuver.

Revert back with the reports .
