What Causes Dizziness And Lethargy After Surgical Abortion?
Question: Hello doctor. I had a surgical abortion 4 days ago. The procedure was extremely painful, and I did not react to it well physically, and emotionally. However I feel that I am doing much better emotionally now. Physically however, I have been dizzy, have low energy, and I have had a very difficult time urinating. There has been no excessive loss of blood, but I still feel faint. Is there anything you can tell me regarding my symptoms? I am very concerned that I might have an abortion with septic shock.

In my opinion it might not be any septic abortion. Septic abortion has clinical features like fever with chills and rigors, pain abdomen of varying severity, offensive purulent vaginal discharge.
Septic abortion is seen in cases of incomplete abortion and illegal induced abortion. Septic abortion by a registered medical practitioner is rare.
The dizziness, fainting, low energy might be due to decreased hemoglobin (Hb) % ie., anaemia due to blood loss. Though there was not excessive blood loss I suggest you to check the Hb level to rule out anaemia.
If any of the above said symptoms of septic abortion occur then you might need medical attention by doing a necessary investigations and antibiotics.
As you have no such symptoms you need not worry. After any procedure body takes some time to adjust so meanwhile you might face some symptoms. Mostly your symptoms suggest anaemia so get the Hb level done . Take nutritious diet and adequate fluids upto 2 to 3 litres. Urinary symptoms might be due to dehydration or urinary tract infection(UTI). So I suggest you to see your gynaecologist and get an Hb and complete urine examination done.
Have adequate fluids and coconut water to wash out urine infection.
