Question: Hello doctor.

I had a acute pontine heamorrage of 18x19 mm 4 months back due to high bp .now I have recovered completely though my left side was affected slightly.I am normal as before in terms of movement .I also had a seizure at the time of incident but after that there is no recurrence and bp is also normal .i am taking telma and alphadopa for bp.i am also taking levipil 500mg both morning and night .I had no history of seisure before and eeg was taken recently and it is normal hence doctor has reduced the dosage from 1000 mg a day to 750 mg.I am feeling tired and dizzy right from the day I was prescibed levipil hence would prefer to stop levipil and need advise on the same

Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

I have gone through your situation well and would definitely like to be of help,in this regard.

Yes, Levipil can be gradually tapered and stopped in your case because, apparently seizure was a manifestation of acute vascular event.
4 months of seizure free period with a normal EEG, is enough to proceed with a trial to stop Levipil with a proper tapering schedule.

Hope that helps,If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.

Brief Answer:
Gradual tapering is to be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for being in follow-up.

Your treating doctor is reducing the dosage gradually,as he has reduced it from 1000mg per day to 750 mg,and this appears to be perfectly fine.He can further reduce the dosage by 250 mg within a month and gradually can keep reducing it to completely stop the drug within next 10-12 weeks.

Hope that helps. If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up else please close the thread, rate it and write a review.
