What Causes Dizziness, Headache And Sneezing?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Nov 2017
Question: Dear Doctor,

Thanks for your reply

The neurologist who investigated me told me that the blood flow to brain is normal. Also he told he had taken EEG for brain activities and results were normal.

These dizzy symptoms initiated after sevre cold with sneezing (Allergy condition) two months back. I also had some pain in my neck (For 2 days)due to lifting heavy object. I told the same to the doctor and they told it is not cause for the dizzy symptoms.

I am also having dust allergy problem from my childhood (Temporary cold and more sneezing), but not having sinutatis. Couple of days back (Morning)I had allergy for cold with continuous sneezing associated with one side headaches after that my dizzy feeling (Fainting spells)get increased when I turn upwards, downwards, Stretching neck

Hence I am having two queries which are mentioned below

1) This dizzy symptoms are due to allergy induced/Sinus congestion

2) Or it is due to any pinched nerves on my neck due to above said pain on my neck due to lifting of heavy object?

Brief Answer:
Allergic sinusitis a possibility

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX thank you for asking from HCM.

Thank you for providing me your detailed history. As brain flow is normal, it means "Transient ischemic attack" had been ruled out.

Your history is suggestive of allergic rhinitis. It can also cause sinusitis which can present with
- Heaviness of head, mainly forehead and around eyes, cheek bones.

- More pain during cold, congested nose.

- postnasal discharge

- repeated sneezing

- vertigo, nasal blockade, anosmia (not able to smell)

So vertigo can be due to it. But along with vertigo, if you are having headache similar to sinusitis, then we should suspect it. It can be further confirmed by

- X ray paranasal sinuses
- Or CT head and paranasal sinuses.

Regarding cervical nerve compression in neck, it can be suspected if there in neck pain, tingling or numbness radiating to upper limbs, vertigo more on flexing the neck and relief in extension position. It can be confirmed by MRI cervical spine.

So correlate your features with above. I am suspecting sinusitis as the cause. You can discuss above possibilities with your doctor and get investigated to confirm.

Let me know about your investigations. I will guide you further,
Thanks. Take care
