What Causes Dizziness Post Aerobic Exercise?

default
Posted on Thu, 19 May 2016
Question: I am 67, have relapsing MS with no relapses for 4 years and no outwardly visible symptoms, otherwise no reportable health problems. I quit playing racquetball 3 years ago because it was a little too rough on my shoulder. I recently reinitiated a bit of aerobic exercise (pickleball) and experienced dizziness and light headedness after an hour. It was most noticeable in my eyes, like I was going to black out, especially when I craned my head upward. I rested a bit and took my blood pressure and noticed it was 94 over 54, very low for me. I also notice that my hands go to sleep if I stay one position for a long time. That seems to be happening with increased frequency. I play again next Tuesday. Should I just take it easy or should I be worried?

Brief Answer:
BP monitoring is required. Not apparently related to MS.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for being on Healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar, Neurologist, here to answer your query.

I have read through your comprehensive clinical history and understood your concerns well.

If you would have presented to me as an outpatient with this clinical history,I would have told you not to be much anxious about this dizziness/ lightheadedness episode. It was probably related to low blood pressure.

As you are on BP medicine, I'd suggest you to take your BP readings twice a day for a few days,so that an appropriate pattern of your BP gets revealed and then the medicines can be adjusted accordingly. The idea is to prevent further hypotensive episodes while maintaining your good BP control.

Sleepiness of hands is due to transient nerve compression and is a very common(almost universal) phenomenon. You need not to worry about it as it is physiological. This is not a disease.

So,please don't be worried and continue your normal life.

Hope that I have answered your query. If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up else please close the thread, rate it and write a review.

Regards
Dr.Ajay Panwar,
