Question: My son just text and send when he got off his 2 hour flight he experienced dizziness, sweating, loss of vision and couldnt even stand up. He said he had to sit for 30 min and just sweat the whole time. He has been experiencing bouts of feeling dizzy or sick to his stomach and we haveassumed it was because he needed to eat or drink something. Was wondering what your opinion of these symptoms could be? thank you

Brief Answer:
Cause of syncopal attack

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. Your son had a syncopal attack. Syncope means sudden lowering of blood pressure and perfusion to brain, resulting into activation of autonomic system to recover from it. This autonomic system leads to dizziness, perspiration, nausea or vomiting, blackout. All these are reversed after recovering from attack.

In case of your son, the cause of this syncopal attack can be-

- any outside/bad food leading to food poisoning
- Change in atmospheric pressure during the flight journey which the body took time to adjust
- Dehydration
- Low blood pressure
- Anxiety

As he is still experiencing some dizziness, please tell him to-

- Take plenty of water
- Get his BP checked to rule out hypotension (low BP from the baseline)
- Take tablet Betahistine for vertigo (prescription may be needed from the local physician)
- Take some rest for the time being
- Avoid hot weather, dehydration

If still no relief, please let me know the complaints. I will be happy to help.
Thanks.
Take care
