What Causes Dizziness Upon Waking Up?

Question: I woke up this morning and felt very dizzy when my feet hit the floor. I had to brace myself on the furniture for 5-10 seconds. That has happened a couple of more times today. I am at work now and had someone take my BP (I work in a hospital, so that was easy to do). BP was 140/90, HR 68. My BP is usually 120/80. I have also had a mild headache on and off since yesterday morning. Have taken Tylenol 3 x. I am not diabetic. I have ZERO health problems, except 25 lbs overweight.
Brief Answer:
Postural hypotension
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. You seem to have developed postural hypotension i.e. there is a drop in blood pressure on getting up. The raised BP could be a compensatory mechanism. You need to drink plenty of water and ORS (oral rehydration solution). Hopefully that should help.
You otherwise need to exercise regularly. Additionally, when you get up in the morning, take a while and sit for a couple of minutes before you get out of the bed. That should give the body time to stabilize.
Let me know if I could help further.
