My problem is muscle pain, with walking, tenderness, I have to stop doing what every I am doing - I love yard work. But the muscle problem seems to getting worse. There is no pain ( chest), there is of course the RA (using Orencia q wk). Am on numerous meds, including Prednisone 5 mg qod, Orencia, Plaqunil, Arava 20 mg q am. The pain is mainly in the upper legs, and upper arms
I live in a small rural town, and no one of my DRs. seem to know what the problem is. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your question.

You describe a problem of muscle pain in the setting of multiple other medical illnesses. A few things come to mind. First, arthritis may actually be the cause of this pain. Pain the joints can be referred to other areas and may be confused as muscular pain. Or, relatedly, you may have another autoimmune disorder that affects the muscles, as RA is often associated with other autoimmune disorders. I would get testing for these (lupus, for example). Prednisone can cause muscle breakdown and pain. You are probably on a statin for cholesterol that can cause muscle pain (get a CK level). You may have a derangement of potassium related to kidney issues or a medication. Finally, this may be psychosomatic and you may benefit from addition of an SNRI antidepressant which also treats pain.
