What Causes Dizziness?

default
Posted on Sat, 18 Oct 2014
Question: I am dizzy and have been for almost 24 hours. The dizziness is moderate and is worse upon standing/walking. I've tried to alleviate it with food and I drink 64+ ounces of water per day, as well as exercise regularly. I am 54, 5'7" and weigh 142. Last week I experienced what I believe was sinusitis, although there was no infection. It lasted almost 4 days.

Brief Answer:
Clinical evaluation and treatment as per ENT

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your Query.

I was just wondering, how is it possible that you have such a great suffering and you have not yet taken medical opinion, investigations and treatment.

It is very dangerous to have dizziness unattended, as this is one condition which a person can not control; you have a dizziness which is moderate and worse on standing and / walking.

It seems that you have URTI- upper respiratory tract infection/ flu / Sinusitis. The inflammation might have gone to the middle ear and then to the internal ear, this being one of the commonest reasons of dizziness. What ever the reason, it will not be alleviated by food, water or exercises.

I would recommend such a patient to consult an ENT Surgeon to get a clinical evaluation, blood and other tests as per the clinical findings and get a prescription based treatment for the medical problem and dizziness / Vertigo.

Take full bed-rest for the medical treatment to work effectively, continue food and water as before. Do not be alone. Attendance is a must till dizziness is abated.

I hope this answer helps you. Please feel free to ask more if you need to. You may rate this answer.
