default
Posted on Fri, 6 Oct 2017
Question: I hit my head on the right side, close to the top near my temple. No nausea, vomiting or confusion. Now, my left eyelid is droopy. I am going to go to the emergency room tomorrow as I have a doctor's appointment there. Will the droopy eyelid go away eventually?

Brief Answer:
You need to see a doctor, see explanation

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking at healthcaremagic.

I carefully read your question about understand your concern.

Eyelid drop generally happens to nerves that do not go through the temples and a truama in that area does not seem to be a possible cause of it so very likely there is no direct relationship of the eyelid drop with the trauma at the temple.
How did the head trauma happen? what were you doing? was is accidental or you lost balance?
It is great you are having a visit with a doctor to find the cause of it, I would say that when neurological signs present (eyelid drop) than seeing the doctor as soon as possible is important to rule out brain causes of it.

So to conlude I would say:
1. eyelid drop does not seem to be caused by the trauma you had unless the trauma was severe (falling off stairs, car accident, etc) and cause bleeding in the brain.
2. seeing a doctor as soon as possible is important to rule out intracranial bleeding that might also happen without trauma due to age and especially if you have hypertension and diabetes.
3. still minor causes, not serious and self limiting might be the very likely cause but because it is important to rule out more important ones, please see a doctor soon.

I hope this is helpful and answers to your question but please feel free te reply in case more clarification is needed on this.

Kind regards,

Antoneta Zotaj, MD
