Brief Answer:
She needs to see a psychiatrist.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your mother's symptoms. I agree that the current symptoms are suggestive of depression.

There are good medications such as escitalopram to treat depression.

I suggest you to consult a psychiatrist and start the medications. I am sure she would improve with proper treatment.

I hope my reply has helped you.

I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.

Thank you doctor for your reply.
Further, I would like to know that, once she completes her two years of medication, Topaz 50 mg would be stopped immediately or it will be tapered down?
How would we know that She is fully cured and doesn't need any further medication?
What tests would you suggest that will report the actual condition of her brain/health.

Brief Answer:
Topaz would be tapered.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

Topaz dose would be gradually tapered and stopped, it would not be abruptly stopped.

She may require brain scan (such as CT scan or MRI scan) and EEG at that time depending on her clinical condition.

Best wishes,

Dr Sudhir Kumar MD DM (Neurology)
