What Causes Drowsiness In Child After Taking Cheston Expectorant?

Stop Cheston Expectorant - not age appropriate
Detailed Answer:
Hi....Cheston expectorant contains Guaphenesin....it is used to treat coughs and congestion caused by the common cold, bronchitis, and other breathing illnesses. Guaifenesin is an expectorant. It works by thinning and loosening mucus in the airways, clearing congestion, and making breathing easier.
This has not been shown to be safe or effective in children younger than 6 years. In fact it is not indicated too as cough is a protective reflex.
Coming to side effects - Nausea or vomiting may occur. Sometimes excessive drowsiness can occur.
But if your doctor has directed you to use this medication, remember that he or she has judged that the benefit is greater than the risk of side effects. Most people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
BUT MY SUGGESTION TO YOU IS TO STOP ADMINISTERING THIS DRUG TO YOUR KID AS IT IS NOT LICENSED TO BE USED AT THIS AGE GROUP.
