What Causes Dry And Flaky Skin On Nose?
? Seborrhoeic dermatitis
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
I understand from your query that you are having dry and flaky skin around your nose.
From your description, I would consider the diagnosis of " Seborrhoeic dermatitis". This is a condition caused by a yeast-like fungus which is also responsible for dandruff on the scalp. The yeast is present normally on the skin in all individuals but in some people it could increase in number to cause dandruff and skin flakiness.
It would be better if I could see a good clinical picture so that I can suggest appropriate treatment.
You have a feature to upload the images by yourself at the right side of the query page, please utilize that so that I can answer your query better. You can also send the image as attachment to YYYY@YYYY , with the subject as 'Attn: Dr. Johny Chacko'.

Hello,
Thank you for uploading the pictures.
It looks like a case of seborrhoeic dermatitis. As I mentioned earlier, this is caused by a fungal yeast which also causes dandruff. This yeast is normally present on the skin of all individuals. However, in some people it tends to overgrow and causes symptoms like flakiness and redness. This is also the reason why dandruff / seborrhoeic dermatitis can only be well controlled, but it cannot be " cured". It will slowly subside on its own over years.
You could apply a cream containing Desonide ( e.g- Desowen cream) twice a day on the scaly areas for 10 days. This will bring it under control and the skin will revert back to normal. After this, as a maintenance, use a cream containing 2 % Ketoconazole ( e.g- Nizral cream) twice a day for about 4-6 weeks.
As far as your dandruff is concerned, you could use a shampoo containing 2 % Ketoconazole ( e.g- Nizral lotion/ Scalpe lotion). Use it on alternate days for 1 st 2 weeks followed by a weekly application for 3-4 months.
Hope this helps you.
If you have any more queries, I will be glad to assist.
Wishing you good health,
