What Causes Dry And Noisy Cough And Difficulty In Breathing?

Question: My son is suffering from ticklish dry and too noisy cough and it is too tough for him to breath when the ticklish cough starts. it is too bad at night time and he cannot sleep. please suggest some medicine.
this problem seems now regular as soon he is back. From school everyday

Thanks for writing to health caremagic.
From your history and description, daily night time cough is indicative of poorly controlled asthmatic cough, ie allergic cough.
Any viral infection can trigger an episode of cough which may last even a week before settling.
I would usually suggest
A) allergy test by skin prick . This will reveal his main triggers for cough which can be avoided.
B) benadryl pediatric cough relief preparation .
C) Albuterol or Salbutamol inhaler at night times when the cough is severe.
D) Proton pump inhibitors like lanzoprazole to decrease reflux which is usually present in asthmatics and causes night time cough.

Thanks Dr, last week he had the allergy test done via blood test and nothing came out and Dr here said no need to go for skin allergy test, so what do u recommend

Skin prick test is the most sensitive test to diagnose allergy.
Sometimes blood test might miss few allergies which skin test might point to.
