Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Lymph nodes in the neck are normally felt by palpating the neck from the outside.
The tonsils are made lymph tissue as well.
The most common cause of the symptoms described would be post nasal drip. There are 3 main cause of a persistent/chronic cough- post nasal drip, reflux and asthma.
Since you have mucus in the throat, post nasal drip is more likely for you.
Post nasal drip would cause intermittent sore throat, hoarseness and inflammation of the throat.
It is usually related to allergies to something eg dust, pollen, animal dander, food or drink.
I had one patient who got a drip with bananas, this was identified on her allergy blood test.
If you already know what you are allergic to then you can avoid it if possible.
The use of topical steroid nasal sprays and anti histamines would help.
Eg of sprays- nasonex, nasocort, rhinocort, flonase
These have to be used consistently to have any effect.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
can be blood tests or skin prick testing
Detailed Answer:
HI
There are allergy tests that can be done. These can be in the form of blood tests or skin prick testing.
Skin prick testing would need to be done by an allergist or dermatologist.
Your GP should be able to take a blood sample to send to the lab if you choose blood tests.
