default
Posted on Wed, 10 Sep 2014
Question: About two weeks ago, the palms of my hands begin to shed, and it has not stopped as of today. I started using gloves when I wash dishes, and have also put various lotions on my hand, but nothing seems to be working. What causes this problem? And how can I stop it from happening?

Brief Answer:
Looks like simple exfoliative disease

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I understand your concern regarding your skin problem and I hope I am able to help you in the same.
Now from the description, it looks like you have developed a skin condition called keratolysis exfoliativa.
This is basically a harmless skin condition in which there is shedding of the skin of palms as a fine whitish powder.
It is mostly not associated with any itching or discomfort to the patient.
Application of moisturisers is usually sufficient and it settles on its own life in sometime.
However in case, you have noticed any associated itching or discomfort or any excessive redness over the palms or soles, then we might have to think on other lines. In that case, I would like to have a look at the exact skin condition. You can click some close up pictures of the affected area and upload them here on this page.
You can look up on Internet regarding the condition that I have mentioned and you will get a fair idea if this is your problem.
