What Causes Dry Mouth And Cough While On Azithromycin?

default
Posted on Fri, 18 Aug 2017
Question: I have dry mouth, dry cough, white patches on tongue and vagina, disoriented and off balance, and very thirsty. Doctor gave me Azithromycin and I took the third and last pill I'm sorry I didn't tell you that I didn't mention the white tongue or vaginal area because I didn't see that until after I contacted the doctor. That is a symptom he didn't know about. The vaginal area is very itchy as well. But that has been going on for a long time with what I think is ingrown hair follicle pimples in several areas of the vagina.

Brief Answer:
the white patches are probably caused by fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

white patches in the mouth or the genitals (associated with itching or burning) is usually caused by fungal infection (Candida usually) as a result of antibiotic treatment. Azithromycin kills a lot of useful bacteria. When these bacteria die, other microbes take their place (as they find more nutrients to consume). When a fungus takes their place the patient may end up with white patches and the rest of the symptoms you've mentioned.

You'd better visit your doctor for confirmation and appropriate treatment. Stopping the antibiotic (if feasible) and taking local antifungal treatment usually suffices to treat these infections. If the infection is persistent despite local treatment then pills can be used.

Kind Regards!
