What Causes Dry, Reddish And Cracking Skin On Scrotum?

default
Posted on Mon, 4 May 2015
Question: have dry, red, and cracking skin on my scrotum and the skin will seem to shed off. After the skin has shed off the skin underneath is very red, then turns shiny and cracks, and in a day or two is shedding again. The problem started with a small spot and has started making more spots that are now connecting and i even have a couple on the shaft of my penis. I have had this problem now for over a year and would really like to find an answer because I have tried not overwashing the area, applying lotion, neosporen, nothing has worked. Any idea on what it might be?

Brief Answer:
Possible causes and their solutions listed sir; pls attach pic of region

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. I am glad to know there are certain things you have tried, and that helps rule out so many things, thank you.

I would like to visually examine the region and so I would like to request you to attach a clear image of the affected region to our discussion if you do not mind of course.

But based on the current information at hand, here is a list of possible causes:

+Eczema: Needs physical examination and antibiotic use
+Contact dermatitis: Requires the use of oral antibiotics
+Fungal infections: Require topical application of anti-fungal creams or ointments (e.g. miconazole or ketoconazole) and possibly even oral tablets (fluconazole oral tablets)
+Poor hydration: Have at least 3 litres of water per day, especially if you are on any medications

Either way please keep the area dry and clean, and avoid the use of tight inner wear. If possible, avoid inner wear for a while so we can avoid further friction and irritation. Also, how is the climate where you live? If it is hot, then the groin region must get moist very easily resulting in a suitable environment for yeast, and this needs to be avoided. Stay in a cool and well ventilated room.

I look forward to hearing from you in order to help you further. I also hope you like my response and please do not hesitate to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
