Question: Dr. Albana,
I don't use any cosmetics. The ointments my doctor gave me were Mometasone Furoate and Mupirocin. I also take Gabapentin, Lisinopril, Clonazepam. The dry skin started before taking the oral medications. I also take Lamtus at bedtime, and Humalog 2 times a day.
I'm not sure how well the pictures turned out, but the red mark is something I wake up with from scratching.

Brief Answer:
Gabapentin in rare cases causes dry skin, report to your doctor as following

Detailed Answer:
Hi back my dear,

I have gone through the information you provided carefully and can say as following:
- I've noticed you are a diabetic and taking insulin Lantus and Humalog respectively. Skin problems like dry skin (xeroderma) is common among diabetics as you.

However, you are saying that the dry skin started after taking the oral drugs.

I was going through oral meds you take and noted:
- gabapentin is reported to cause dry skin in rare cases

I advise to discuss with the doctor who prescribed gabapentin about this rare side effect.

The most important thing is to keep your skin well hydrated.
Avoid hot baths or tubes. Avoid rubbing towel against the skin. Apply moisturizer immediately after XXXXXXX dry your face skin.

Next, apply milk cream on your face at bedtime. That has worked for some of my patients. You can by ready made milk cream or can prepare some yourself:
- boil the cow's milk
- let it cool until you see a layer of cream is already on the top
- take this layer and apply on your face skin

Milk cream contains lactic acid and other components that are naturally found on the skin that will provide protection and moisture.

Keep air humidifiers where you stay. This will keep your skin well hydrated too.

Hope this helps.
Let me know if you have further queries.
