What Causes Dull Pain In Left Underarm And Musculoskeletal Pain?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Jun 2015
Question: Whenever I eat, upon swallowing I get a dull ache on the inside of my left armpit, right where it meets my chest. The pain doesn't last long, just a brief second before it goes away. I'm a 25 year old male, I've struggled with my weight for a long time. I did recently take a fall when practicing with my roller derby league, could that be it? The problem's been ongoing since this past Saturday. I'm worried about it being something serious like lymphoma or a heart problem. what could this be??

Brief Answer:
Possibility of musculoskeletal pain is more.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your concern.

Based on your description, it sound like a musculoskeletal pain secondary to fall. I would not be worried about lymphoma or major cardiac illness. If you are still worried, I would order for an EKG and ultrasound of axilla. This should convince you about the absence of cardiac disease and lymphoma.

I think you should try over the counter painkiller such as ibuprofen twice a day. Muscle relaxant drugs will provide additional benefits. Avoid heavyweight lifting and strenuous exercise. Avoid bad postures and painful movements.
Apply warm water pad on affected area.
Muscle relaxant drugs are prescription based medication. So if you don't feel better with ibuprofen, please consider visiting a doctor.

Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Thanks! So you don't think there's any correlation between my GI tract (i.e. GERD) or anything of that ilk that could be causing the armpit pain while swallowing?

Brief Answer:
GERD can not cause pain in armpit.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on HCM.
GERD can not cause pain in armpit. It can cause epigastric pain, central chest pain beneath sternum. Pain in armpit is less likely due to GERD.
