Brief Answer:
Gallstones.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Such pain is usually caused by gallstones. Sometimes it does radiate to the back. Nausea can be present. The symptoms are usually associated with foods intake, especially fatty foods or alcohol.
The pain in this area can be also caused by stomach issues, however it is usually localized more to the center.
I suggest you to start with some diagnostics. Abdominal ultrasound and blood work should be done at first. If nothing will be found, gastroscopy should be next.
In a meanwhile please try to avoid fatty foods, spicy foods, alcohol, coffee.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

a month ago I had a more intense episode. It was after flying home, we had pizza nothing out of the ordinary and not an excessive amount. I started to get what I thought was heart burn, uncomfortable stomach pressure and burping. I took tums and the uncomfortable pressure did not subside. I took Pepto-Bismol but the pressure would not go away, I paced the house to work things around and hop fully settle my stomach. the only way I could get relief and stop the pain partially was to bend my stomach over a pillow, kneel down on the floor and curl my body up. It eventually subsided and I was able to sleep but it took several hours. I thought is had to do with the possible food and flight...but that was on August first and now this pain has started and it has continued for more than a week. It almost feels like I have a tennis ball tucked up under my rib cage.

Detailed Answer:
Your description is typical for gallstones. Food seems to be the factor of your symptoms. Gallstones pain can appear periodically and a month or two of the gap is quite characteristic. So please try to do as advised in the previous reply.
