What Causes Dull Radiating Pain From Cheek To Eye Socket And Right Temple?

Posted on Tue, 7 Jul 2015
Question: Hi Doctor, I have a dull ache that stretches from my right cheek (side of the nose) all the way up through my eye socket and into my right forehead. It isn't overly painful (more pressure), just very annoying. The pain would be like a 3 out of 10. Low grade headache.

2)If episodic, what is the frequency of the episodes?Do you remain normal in between the episodes?
3)Is it associated with nausea?
4)Does the intensity of pain/headache increase on exposure to loud sound or bright light?
5)Is it associated with stress?Any other precipitating factors?

Hi Dr. Panwar,

The situation is fairly constant. There is no difference with light or loud noise. I do not have any kind of nausea. No seizures or loss of consciousness. I do feel sometimes like my head is in a "bubble", although I do not have a headcold. The only other item with this is a very low grade ringing in my ears. While constant, it is very minor.
Thank you XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Tension type headache/CT Head

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up and providing the details I asked for.

After analysing your medical history,I am of the impression that your diagnosis is probably 'Tension type headache'.
Although, your headache is restricted on the right side and unilateral localisation is less likely for Tension type headache, but it may be so,in some cases.Considering this clinical point,I suggest you to undergo a CT scan of Head(contrast CT),to rule out any intracranial pathology.

Meanwhile, you can start with Tab.amitriptyline 10 mg once a day at bedtime and observe for the response.Tension type headache should respond to amitriptyline.
PLEASE TAKE ALL MEDICINES UNDER A PHYSICIAN'S GUIDANCE.

Hope that I have answered your query. If you have some follow-up questions,I shall be glad to answer else, please close the thread, rate it and write a review as your rating will be of help to me.

Regards
Dr.Ajay Panwar,
MD,DM(Neurology)
