What Causes Dysphagia?
Question: 55 y o caucssian male in general good health. non-smoker, nondrinker. hx of mild, rarely-episodic dysphagia, almost always occurring when eating beef steak too rapidly on an empty stomach. hx of intermittent, noncontinuous GERD, which generally would follow a late night spicy meal. I have had no baseline esophageal endoscopies performed.
my chief complaint is based upon approximately the past two weeks that I've been feeling a scratchy tight sensation in vicinity of my proximal (cervical) esophageal sphincter. been reading all the internet "horror stories" linking seemingly similar symptoms with esophageal adenocarcinoma. however, I have experienced no weight loss, no palpable nodes, no fever, or other systemic disruptions --- at least that I can discern. I run 5 miles a day. I have experienced no loss of energy. And I eat well.
I understand the difficulties of at a distance diagnoses. however, based on what I have conveyed, would you consider esophageal adenocarcinoma as one of the 'top of mind' differentials, given this set of facts?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.
Dysphagia is a symptom that should get further evaluated through:
- upper endoscopy
- and/or barium contrast examination
After getting the results, we get discuss specifically.
For the moment, your symptoms seem not suggestive for cancer, however the last word depends on tests results.
Hope it was of help!
