Question: My sister has bad RA and now her bones are breaking easily. What can be done for her bones?

Brief Answer: Osteoporosis Detailed Answer: Hi, It sounds like your sister has osteoporosis. The diagnosis can be made by performing a special scan called a DEXA scan which measures the amount of calcium that are in the bones i.e. how strong they are. If your sister has already had a number of fractures then this may not be necessary however and the Dr's may decide to start her on treatment anyway. The treatment in Calcium and Vitamin D dietry supplementation and drugs called bisphosphonates that act to reduce the turn over of the bone and strengthen them.
