What Causes Easy Bruising Along With Sudden Weight Loss?

Question: Hello. My sister is 65 and in great physical condition. She lost a lot of weight last year - it just sort of fell off her and she is unable to gain it back. But that is not the issue. Just thought it might be related. At any rate, every time her arms or legs touch anything, the skin tear, which bleeds and then she gets a blood bruise. Her arms and legs are now almost covered with same under the skin. She has been to several doctors, but has been unable to come up with an answer. Can you help? Oh, also, she has had cortizone shots in her neck and knees for arthritis.

Hi,

I am sorry for the situation your sister is in.

You are reporting that she has a tendency to get bruised easily and that she has done various inconclusive tests. Can you please provide the tests reports to get them analyzed by my self?

Now, I was going through the medications she is currently taking and noted that she is taking Montelukast. In rare cases, skin bruising/bleeding is associated with Montelukast use.

Simvastatin has been shown by clinical research to reduce activity of blood clotting process. Thus, bleeding time is prolonged and might be a possible cause to skin getting bruised easily.

You can discuss with her doctors about this too.
