What Causes Easy Bruising?

Question: I am wondering if I should be concerned about bruising easily. Sometimes I do not realize I have a bruise until my partner reveals it to me. I work at a grocery store in a delicatessen and the bakery. In the delicatessen I cut the cooked meat and cheese with a slicer which runs automatically or manual. We use automatic with meat and manually with the cheese. Bakery is mainly packaging bake goods (such as bread, muffins, and cookies) and keep the shelves full through out the store. They fad in a couple days, others are large and dark blue in color. I also bruise during sexual contact where fingers may have placed during the act or if someone grabs me quickly to stop me because they want to speak to me. I am not in an abusive relationship. I am female, almost 53 years old living with a male that is also 53 years old. I can wake up from bruises from my cat laying on my arm during the night your where he has placed a paw with a lot of weight behind it,

I appreciate your concern

Bruising easily is a hematological symptom. Complete blood count including platelets, Peripheral smear, Bleeding time, Clotting time, PT/APTT INR and Liver function tests should be ordered to look for the underlying cause in consultation with your doctor. A differential in this regard is an urticarial rash which can present in such a way that may mimic bruising. It would be beneficial for you to get these bruises examined before a battery of investigations is advised. Treatment can be initiated once the cause for the discoloration/bruising is known.
