What Causes Elevated ST Elevation And Bundle Block?
Question: My 15 yr old daughter had an abnormal EKG yesterday prior to surgery on thumb. The results were Non specific intraventricular block, short PR, T wave abnormality consider inferior ischemia. Her heart rate was 111 at the time due to anxiety. The only medicine she is on is Altavera ( BCP) for menstrual regulation. A nurse friend looked at EKG and said it looked like elevated ST elevation & bundle block. What could cause this?
Brief Answer:
Suspected Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through the ECG report of your daughter and I think she might be having problems with heart rhythm, possible Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome.
Further cardiac evaluations are needed including:
- Holter monitoring
- exercise testing
- electrophysiology studies
You can discuss it further with her cardiologist in order to determine if your child needs further treatment or not.

Dr. Sejdini,
My daughter had a repeat EKG in cardiologist's office this morning along with consult and he concurred with your response. She was diagnosed with WPW and will see a heart specialist for further evaluation. Much thanks and gratitude !
