What Causes Elevated Level Of Protein In Urine?

Action can be taken to avoid further damage.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:
1. Protein in urine is present due to glomerular damage. The diagnosis is usually nephropathy or renal disease.
2. The common causes include uncontrolled diabetes or hypertension or both together.
3. Once the damage has occurred it is irreversible. However, good control, if done will help in avoiding further damage. It usually starts as a small quantity of protein in urine and goes on increasing.
4. Adequate protein intake (0.8-1g/kg body weight/day), low salt diet, along with good control of diabetes mellitus and hypertension will help at present. Other options would be kidney transplantation. However, even after transplant, control of the disease is essential.
5. At present, there is nothing much anybody can do for reversal. As indicated above, if followed, further damage can be avoided.
Hope it helps.
