What Causes Elevated Liver Transaminases?

default
Posted on Wed, 21 Jan 2015
Question: I got my blood exams results a week ago :
AST 86
ALAT 107
Gamma-GT 33
Total Bilirubin 14 umol/l

AST and ALAT are high and the doctor recommended me to stop eating too much fat and start with the gym (no blood exams for fat were done).
Five days ago I noticed that my urine started to produce a certain type foam when it hit the water (it was never like that).

Are these symptoms correlated somehow ?
I am 27 years old, I don't smoke and I only drink alcohol 2~4 times a month. I am 175 cm and weight 92 kilos.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Slightly elevated liver enzymes, further tests advised...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

You are reported to have high liver transaminases, which are indicative for slight damage of the liver.

You are also reporting to :
- be overweight
- be drinking alcohol 2-4 times a month
- not smoking

Being overweight and alcohol drinking might be possible causes to increased transaminases levels.

I advise to make healthy changes in your diet and lifestyle regimen to bring your transaminases back to normal range again:
- no alcohol
- try to reduce weight
- eat healthy: avoid oily/fatty, processed foods, etc
- increase physical activity

With regards to foamy urine, that could be a sign of:
- urinary tract infection: get urine analysis done
- diabetes: measure your fasting blood sugar levels and HbA1C

Hope it was of help!
