Brief Answer:
Information on proteinuria:

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

Urine should not have any significant amount of protein (albumin). When there is protein in the urine we call that proteinuria. It happens when the kidneys are not able to filter out all of the protein and so it ends up in the urine.

There are quite a few causes for proteinuria, the most common being uncontrolled diabetes and uncontrolled high blood pressure. It can also happen when there is too much protein produced such as with multiple myeloma.

Other types of kidney damage can cause proteinuria too as can autoimmune/immune disorders, and some medications.

The most important thing right now is to determine what is causing your proteinuria so that any thing that can be done to limit the kidney damage can be done. For example if it is due to diabetes, then controlling blood sugar tightly will help. If it is from very high blood pressures, then an ACE inhibitor medication may help. If there is an underlying autoimmune disorder that involves the kidneys, you should be treated for that disorder.

So, it is important to explore what is causing this for you, and try to get it under control.
