What Causes Enlarged Lymph Nodes In The Lungs?

default
Posted on Thu, 25 May 2017
Question: I am 66 years old, male in good general health. I was a semi professional tennis player till 8 years back and my lungs were fine. 13 years back, a longevity checkup showed enlarged lymph nodes on my lungs. The doctor thought it may be from childhood pneumonia. 6 years back I had a cat scan and there was no change in the lungs. Today I went to lung doctor just to touch base. The breath blowing test showed I blow out slightly slower than normal.Doctor said that is because I am a ex smoker( smoked 1 pack a day for 12 years, no smoking for last 30 years). The test results were same as 6 years back. Please advise your thoughts on this. Should I have another cat scan, will this affect my lungs in 20 years and what can I do to avoid any problem.

Brief Answer:
Take inhalers

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you foe asking in HCM

I can understand your concern

Firstly i want to explain to you that enlarged lymph nodes usually does not affect the lung function which means to low the lung volumes in Spirometry test.

I agree with the doctor that it might be because you are an ex smoker.

However i do not think you should be worried so much

If you were my patient i would give you some treatment for one month (with inhalers like Foradil twice or Seretide twice but it depends on the rate of damage) and will repeat the Spirometry test after the treatment.

If the next spirometry is normal than you might stop the inhaler and you should be followed further with this test.

I do not think you should do cat scan for this anymore

Take care and feel free to ask me again
