What Causes Episodes Of Blurred Vision And Nausea?

default
Posted on Mon, 24 Aug 2015
Question: About a week ago, I suddenly felt faint while in an exercise class. Later that day, my vision blurred, and in the evening, I felt nauseated. Those same symptoms have been manifesting themselves off and on since then. I live in the XXXXXXX area, where it's very hot, but I drink a lot of water, too, and am smart enough to stay out of the sun as much as possible.
Except for migraines, I'm otherwise in good health.

Brief Answer:
Need to rule out transient ischemic attack.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic

I am Dr. Dadapeer K and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history.
These symptoms can occur in prodromal phase of migraine.
But since these symptoms are recurring I would like to rule out transient ischemic attack.
The common causes to be ruled out are decreased blood sugar, decreased blood pressure, hypovolemia....

You are doing good thing by increasing fluid intake but since the episodes of fainting with blurred vision are recurrent I would suggest evaluation by tests to rule out causes for transient ischemic attack.
The common tests like blood sugars, blood pressure, lipid profile and cardiac evaluation are required.

Hence I advice you to consult your physician doctor for further evaluation and advice accordingly.

Hope this information is helpful to you.

Thank you

I had blood work done in April, and everything was normal. And I had a cardiac workup in XXXXXXX including a stress test. (My father and brother had/have heart disease, but both of them were/are heavy smokers and drinkers. Even so, I'm tested routinely.)

So my question is, with these tests having been done recently, do you think I need to redo them?

Also, I didn't think to mention earlier that I had a root canal done four days before the symptoms first showed up. I've had no pain from the root canal other than a little sensitivity for a few days. I also had one day--after the root canal but before the symptoms started to occur--when I had a stabbing pain near the top edge of my ear near the face, which continued most of the day.

I've had migraines for around 15 years, but none of these symptoms has ever accompanied them.

Brief Answer:
Root canal treatment is usually not responsible for these symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

Since it is about 4 months since evaluation no need to repeat all the tests and cardiac evaluation. But basic tests like measurement of blood pressure and blood sugar are necessary.

The root canal treatment will not cause these symptoms hence no need to be worried.

Migraine are known to be associated with these symptoms. Even if these symptoms were absent in the past it is possible to have these at any point of time. These symptoms can be related to migraine if you are having these symptoms first and typical migraine headache following these symptoms.

Hence I advice you to discuss all these with your primary care physician or family physician.

Hope this answers your question.

Thank you
