What Causes Episodes Of Shimmery Vison With A Central Floater?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Mar 2015
Question: Hi,
I have had a couple of episodes of shimmery vision. It is occurring in my right eye about centre right of the vision field. It appears for a few minutes then goes away. Appears like a triangular edged circular line and comes on after I've been at the computer for a while. It may be around the vision area of the optic nerve. If I shut my eyes it still appears something like a circular floater.
No other symptoms and it goes fairly quickly. I do not suffer from mygranes..as far as I know. Thanks

Brief Answer:
These symptoms can be because of vitreous degenerations.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care magic

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an Ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history.
It seems from the history that you are having episodes of shimmery vison with a central floater.

These symptoms usually indicate vitreous degenerations like posterior vitreous detachment, vitreous opacities. Vitreous is a gel like structure which lies behind the lens and it may become liquified and undergo degeneration slowly with increasing age.
These vitreous degenerations are age related ones and usually will resolve in severity over few days and no treatment is generally required.

Most of them will not cause any problems. But sometimes this may be associated with retinal problems like retinal degenerations, retinal tear..., hence this requires examination of the posterior segment of the eye by ophthalmologist.

Hence I advice you to consult your ophthalmologist for examination of the posterior segment of the eye by simple tests like ophthalmoscopy.
Do consult your doctor for examination and write back to me with examination reports.

Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you.
Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you
