What Causes Esophageal Dilatation While Undergoing An Endoscopy?

Question: Thank you for checking back with me. I am still having the same problem. I saw my primary doctor and he said my throat looked clear and my lungs sounded clear. So he is going to order some tests and call me as soon as they have been scheduled. I was told several years ago after an endoscopy that I would eventually need to have my esophagus "stretched". I wonder if "eventually" has arrived and I will need to have this done in the near future.

Brief Answer:
Consult Gastroenterologist .

Detailed Answer:
Hi Joyson21,
Happy to be in touch with you . Thanks for the query. I have read it & understand your concern.
The fact that you were informed about possibility of esophageal dilatation ,while undergoing endoscopy several years back.. suggests that you had acid regurgitation problem(GERD).. probably that's why the endoscopy. Yes long running GERD can cause esophageal stricture which may need dilatation...Such esophageal stricture can lead to cough with mucus sputum / gag/hiccups while swallowing & in night ( due to regurgitation ), This can lead to difficulty in swallowing, eating - poor nutrition & weakness or fatigue.
* So it's worth consulting Gastroenterologist ( if you have difficulty in swallowing) for physical assessment & upper gastric endoscopy to exclude/ confirm the esophageal stricture followed by it's dilatation as per need.
* But your fever & breathlessness remain unanswered, so investigations( X ray chest, sputum culture & sensitivity & acid fast bacteria-) need to be continued to completely exclude any respiratory tract affection & infection.
I hope you find the answer informative & useful. Any follow up query is welcome.

Wish you a speedy recovery.
Thank you
