What Causes Eustachian Tube Dysfunction, Post Nasal Drip And Recurrent Otitis Externa?
could be sinusits, requires audiometry and nasal endoscopy
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having Eustachian tube blockage with otitis externa.
I would like to ask you few more details.
Is there any head-ache or nasal obstruction ?
Is your ear pain (otitis externa) associated with hearing loss ?
Kindly get back to me with the details.
As per your clinical details, it appears to be your Eustachian tube dysfunction and otitis externa could be due to sinusitis.
I suggest you to to consult ent surgeon and give history (dandruff, eczema-otititis externa is common), get detailed ENT examination, nasal endoscopy ( deviated septum, sinusitis - pus at sinus openings), audiometry with otoscopy (status of Eustachian tube and ear drum), blood tests (random blood sugar for diabetes) for chronic otitis externa. Depending on the examination, treatment can be started.
Meantime, avoid water per ear (plug the ear with cotton during bath) to prevent the reinfection. Avoid consuming freezer products (ice cream/curd), cold can enhance sinus and Eustachian tube blockage. Do valsalva manoevere (watch youtube video) exercises.
Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Wishing you good health.
seems to be sinusitis due to DNS.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.
Gross deviated septum causes blockage of nose and stasis of secretions in sinuses leading to sinusitis and Eustachian tube dysfunction.
You need to evaluate with the investigations, what I have already mentioned to rule out the depth of infection and degree of hearing loss.
Kindly go ahead.
Hope, I have answered your query.
Take care.
citrizine/amoxcillin.

Hello again,
Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.
1. Otomize ear spray (dexamethasone, neomycin and acetic acid) best works for otitis externa, needs to continue for 1 week.
2. Eusthacian tube dysfunction- Take anti allergic medications like citrizine 10mg one at tab at bed time and Nasal decongestant drops like xylometazoloine 3drops/3times/1 week, along with that cap.amoxcillin as an antibiotic course (you need to visit a local doctor for dosage and prescription).
As your problem is chronic, needs evaluation with the investigations.
Hope, I have answered your query.
Take care.
Needs evaluation to start anti-fungal spray
Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.
Most often, swimming, diabetes, atopic dermatitis (eczema), dandruff, psoriasis are the primary problems to cause chronic otitis externa.
As such, yeast (fungal) is common in immuno compromised patients; you cannot start anti-fungal treatment without proper evaluation.
Kindly evaluate.
All the best
Take care.
