What Causes Excessive Stomach Gas?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Apr 2014
Question: I've had excessive stomach gas for almost a year now. I've tried every available medicine for colon treatment but they just don't work and my gas is not getting any better and it's really embarrassing as i can't control myself anywhere. I don't think its the colon since i am not responding to colon medications. I don't have any medical problems and have been healthy except for this excessive 24hrs gas. The gases are very smelly and i get them all day. I eat in moderation and i exercise . I don't know what causes this and what's the solution. I am a female 26 years old married with one child.

Brief Answer: more tests needed Detailed Answer: I suppose you have tried many medications for gas, including simethicone (Gas x). Most of the time, gas is diet related, and it could be due to lactose intolerance, gluten intolerance, or other food intolerances. Low thyroid function can cause this symptoms, also as mentioned gluten intolerance (celiac disease). Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) is also a consideration. For all these entities you will need further testing (blood tests, breath testing and endoscopy) usually done by a gastroenterologist. For now i would suggest to try eliminating certain food that can cause gas such as: - fruits: such as XXXXXXX pear, watermelon, cherry, avocado, prunes - dairy products - artificial sweeteners - cereals - vegetables: such as artichoke, asparagus, broccoli, onion - baked beans, lentils, kidney beans Also taking probiotics over the counter might help Hope that helps. let me know if you have any further questions or concerns
