What Causes Excessive Thirst Along With Pain In Pelvic And Lower Back Area?
Question: Have bladder infection, possibly in kidney.. went to er for dehydration. Got back home, pelvis & lower back ache. Trying to walk. Still craving water.,whats going on
Brief Answer:
Need some clarifications...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
You said you have bladder infection. Does it mean it was diagnosed at the ER? If it wasn't I would like to know the details/symptoms that lead to conclusion of bladder infection.
I wish to know the details because a person with urinary tract infection can present with ureteric colic which can explain the lower back as well as pelvic pains. In the back ground of a bladder infection, I can very well explain these pains.
Assuming my explanation is right, I am perplexed why you weren't prescribed medicines for bladder infection while at the ER. The drugs prescribed could have taken care of the pain.
Therefore can you provide more details to allow me discuss better
Regards

No ..primary dr told me.
Brief Answer:
In that case, you need further management...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
If the bladder infection was diagnosed at the doctor's office, I am still baffled by the lack of treatment. Ideally you should be on medications / antibiotics, offcourse based on urine test reports. An ultrasound scan is inorder to rule out other causes of pain. Without an opportunity to physically examine, medical ethics doesn't allow me to order the investigations directly. Therefore please revisit your doctor. He/she can perform the tests that are due.
In the meanwhile, you should drink plenty of fluids. Try cranberries - juice or cranberry pills which is known to be really helpful for urinary tract infection. Tylenol pain relief tablets which are over the counter drugs can be used twice a day. If that's make you feel better a prescription drug like vicodin can be tried briefly under your doctor's care.
In short, you need further evaluation and treatment based on test results.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.
Regards

Yeah, i went to find out at clinic. It is colitis
Brief Answer:
Colitis will resolve gradually...
Detailed Answer:
Colitis is an acute inflammatory condition of bowel which closely mimicks ureteric colic. Though the condition is dissimilar, the treatment is alike. I hope you were a prescription for a pain relief and some probiotics. It will be resolved in a few days.
I presume bladder infection and ureteric colic was ruled out. In that case cranberries may not be of much help.
I am glad this issue is resolved now. If there is something else that you wish to discuss about, let me know. Otherwise, you may close the discussion.
Wish you speedy recovery.
God Bless!

Yes there wasnt any bladder infection. It was acute colitis
Brief Answer:
Good to have a definitive diagnosis....
Detailed Answer:
I am glad we have a definitive diagnosis. And as I said earlier, acute colitis resolves very well with proper treatment. I generally prescribe a course of probiotic, antispasmodics and pain relief medications. Antibiotic therapy is necessary in case there are features of infection. Hospitalisation is recommended if a person is severely dehydrated or the infection is severe enough to warrant parenteral antibiotic therapy.
Acute colitis is usually secondary to food and water contamination. Therefore watch what you eat and where you eat. Make sure you keep the hygiene levels up.
I guess, the concerns are solved now. If it hasn't, let me know how I can assist you further.
