Posted on Thu, 18 Sep 2014
Question: I noticed an excessive tissue surrounding the opening of my vagina. I am able to put my finger in it to create a hole. However, I can only go so far. The floor of my vagina feels swollen and the roof seems to have this tissue attached to it. I am currently on birth control and I should be expecting my period on 09/04/14. I do not have kids. I am panicking and I need answers. Please help me. I plan on making an appointment with a gynecologist soon.

Brief Answer:
Dont worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..
I understand your concern..

Do you have any problem during intercourse? Do you have any problem while passing urine?

From the image you have sent, there is no excessive tissue around the vagina.Only the anterior wall appears more prominent. It can be just a physiological change or a cystocele (bladder wall protruding into vagina). This can be confirmed only by physical examination. So please consult your gynaecologist.

A finger smoothly goes in and what you feel around is the rougosities of vaginal wall and not swelling.. Swelling in the vaginal wall is usually associated with pain.
On the roof it is attached to cervix which is the mouth of uterus..

You appear to be normal to me by the image.. So dont panic. For your satisfaction get a check with your doctor.. Hope I have answered your queries.. Feel free t ask any doubts..Good day..

Thank you so much. Now I can relax and continue studying for my exam. To answer your question, 2 weeks ago was the last time I had sex,and it wasn't painful. I don't have any problems at all passing urine or walking. I plan on scheduling an appointment with a gynaecologist tomorrow.

By the way, if it is a cystocele, what are the ways to treat it?"

Hi,
Thanks for writing..

It might not be a cystocele if you are asymptomatic. It might just be the anterior vaginal wall. In case of mild cystocele, no treatment is required. Keigel's exercise to strenghthen the pelvic muscles is advised. After delivery, only if cystocele increases, a corrective surgery is required.

I think you neednot worry about it now.. All the best for your exam.. If you dont have any doubts, kindly close the conversation and rate my answer. Good day.
