What Causes Excruciating Pain During Urination While Using Catheter?

Question: just had bilateral surgery today, I was told urination would be painful because of the catheter. I have urinated 3 times and each time the pain gets worse. the last time was excruciating, like I was passing a kidney stone or some sought of blockage. Help I am afraid to pee.
Brief Answer:
Discuss with your doctor about some pain medication
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
Incidentally, it is not unusual to have such pains after such a surgery. I would suggest you to mention it to your doctor and he can put certain pain medications like drotaverine in the intravenous line which you likely have at present. It will help in reducing the pain.
Hope that helps.

I am not sure you are understanding me Dr. Saha, I already had the surgery I am home not much pain in the surgery area, thanks to pain meds but the pain from urinating is excruciating. I had a catheter during surgery and they said the may be some burning when I urinate but this pain is really bad, and it seems pain meds are not helping.
Brief Answer:
Get your urine microscopy and culture done
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.
I understand what you are saying. The pain could be due to an infection introduced through the catheter. I would suggest you to get your urine routine microscopy and culture done. That will help in identifying if you have an urinary tract infection, treating which will possibly take care of your pain.
