What Causes Excruciating Pain On My Lower Abdomen?

Question: I have been experiencing excruciating pain on my lower abdomen every 5 minutes the pain moves around to my upper stomach, the pain is quite severe, each time it comes around,, it last for 30 secods to 1 minute and comes back again, this has been going on since days now and I cannot sleep.

Hi XXXX ! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

If I were your doctor, after a clinical assessment of your abdomen specially during the episodes of pain, I would advise you for some routine tests like a CBC, Blood sugar, Blood urea, S creatinine, S uric acid, a routine and microscopic test of the urine followed by a culture sensitivity if need be, a stool test for ova and cyst, and an ultrasound of the whole abdomen to rule out stone disease of the urinary tract and gall bladder, and to rule out any other pathology of your pelvic organs.

Further management would depend on the reports of investigations and result of a clinical assessment of your abdomen as a whole. Till then, I would prescribe you with an anti spasmodic along with a proton pump inhibitor drug for a symptomatic relief.
