What Causes Extreme Fluid Retention In The Legs And Heaviness In The Testicles?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Aug 2017
Question: I have water retention in my legs. Lately out of the blue my testicles are very large and very heavy. I have not shown this to my primary doctor yet. My penis shrinks back into my testicles and just disappears. My testicles are the size of a small tennis ball. No pain, but very uncomfortable when sitting on the toilet. My son and I think it is water retention, I have never heard of this. Please help with an answer. XXXXXXX XXXX YYYY@YYYY

Hello and welcome,

Without the advantage of knowing your full medical history and exam, I can say with 100 percent certainty what is going on with you, but I can say that if a person has water retention, especially from insufficient heart flow (congestive heart) rather than from venous problems (incompetent vein valves), that fluid can accumulate in any parts of the body that are dependent or in other words, the lowest parts. So if you are lying on your back for a long time, the fluid can accumulate in the low back over the sacrum. If sitting, it can accumulate in the genitals.

But given that you are not noticing it anywhere else, I can't say for sure that that is the case.

I recommend that you do go in and show this to your doctor discuss this with him or her. If your doctor has not already done an evaluation of your heart, such as with an echocardiogram, and you are having all of this fluid retention, that would be advisable. A water pill such as furosemide (Lasix) can help pull excess water off your body but first it would be a good idea to see why you are having water retention in places other than your legs.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.
